Treatment for our opening

The idea that we want to move forward with for our Treatment is;
The opening of Zyklon B will begin with establishing who the Zyklons are and what they are capable of. By doing this we will present them as psychopathic and on edge as well as show their hideout deep in the woods. Once this is done they bring out a clipboard with their 'targets' on, the people they aim to kill next. Once they have achieved this their picture is put on the board. To emphasise the Zyklons murdering ability the whole wall should be filled with pictures with a Nazi Swasticka scribble across their face to signify they have been killed, this should be in a crimson red as this emphasises and portrays bloodshed and death. Once their target is released they look for him in the woods. A young black male who attempts to run away. As the Zyklons's pursue him one of the members lose their bag. They eventually catch up with the target and murder him 'in the name of the leader' a mysterious antagonist who remains unseen until the end of the film. We decided to go with the conventional code of having an unrelated character killed in the first 2 minutes in order to establish the threat of the Zyklons.

Video
We want to include a range of shots, codes and conventions in our opening. Firstly, we want to add an establishing shot to show the hideout of the Zyklons. This needs to have connotations of mystery and disguise, so we want to make it deep in the woods where it is isolated. Once inside we want the room to be dark, only lit by candles with extreme close ups of racist leaders and dictators in the past, we will try to keep this subtle as to not cause offence, but also keep it realistic. The group also need a cork board with hundreds of pictures of the deceased on it, with newspapers clippings of their work zoomed in on like a serial killer

We want to establish the threat that the Zyklon's possess immediately and we can portray how dangerous and unpredictable they are. To do this we are going to use a conventional teen horror movie cliche of killing an irrelevant character in the first two minutes. The Zyklon's board has a new target, so as he approaches the secluded area they attempt to isolate him, as a small chase sequence begins, the bag which is crucial in the plot of the story containing money and a locket belonging to a ruthless Nazi soldier could be dropped in their pursuit. We don't want to show the murder but make the audience aware that it has happened.

Sound

We want to include a range of diegetic and non diegetic sound. Firstly, we want a non diegetic sound with a somber tone to portray the mystery and ambiguity associated with a white supremacy group. We want the song to be redolent of a German hymn with phonological connotations of tension and the elongated vowel sounds can be used as each image on the board appears. In terms of diegetic sound, the equipment that we are using wouldn't be able to pick up speech and audio as well as in a major film production, so we want to limit character dialogue to as little as possible. The only diegetic dialogue we want to include is the Zyklon's saying a German prayer before they go out to kill their 'target'. This was because throughout the holocaust the Nazi soldiers were deeply religious and felt they were purifying the Earth by ridding it of the in-pure.

Titles

In terms of including titles to our film opening. We want to include our film logo of Optimis Semper

As well as this, we will be given a company for which we will be in association with that we can include to our titles. We don't want this too take very long as we want to prioritise the footage we have filmed. Whilst we show the establising shot of the hideout, we can include the name of the film, and credits at the start for the opening 15 seconds, giving recognition to the directors, editors and producers.
